2008 Barra Classic
May 9th, 2008The 2008 NT Barra Classic starts this Saturday, 10 May, with the Junior Day, that will see 60 junior anglers participating. Barra Classic skippers and crew will teach the juniors the finer art of catching barramundi and show them how to tag and release the fish.
The Barra Classic then commences on Monday 12 May and competitors from as far away as the USA and Germany will compete alongside local and interstate anglers, all in the quest for the elusive “Barra on a Stick”, the ultimate trophy.
Forty-five teams of three anglers will compete over the five day event. This includes 15 local teams, 10 all-interstate teams and 20 mixed teams of locals and interstate anglers– with three of these teams being all-female.
The Barra Classic holds a five-star rating from NEATfish (National Environmental Assessment of Tournament Fishing) which is the highest rating available, and recognises the positive environmental, social and social impacts of the event.

25th Barra Classic Anniversary DVD - Update
August 22nd, 2006The rough cut our 25th Barramundi Classic DVD looks absolutely awesome, it really showcases this fantastic event.
There’s still a fair bit of final editing, soundtracks and some narration to be added but the cinematography, fish catching and some of the arial shots are fantastic. We had hoped the DVD would available in September, but that may now be pushed back a number of weeks in pre-production.
A large number of DVD’s will be initially released via a XXXX promotion, and the remainder will become available through the club, we’ll keep our website updated with its progress and let you all know as soon as it rolls off the production line.
25th Barra Classic - Day 5
May 27th, 2006
The 25th Barra Classic wrapped up last night with 134 happy anglers partying the night away at the Banyan Farm on the Daly River. Even those who had not caught a lot of fish said they’d had a wonderful time at the tournament.
Dennis Pigott, who caught the first recaptured barra and has fished a lot of Classics, said this year was the best Barra Classic he’d been to!
The Arnhemland Nitro Boys romped home to take out Champion Team with 3885 points. They were 1115 points clear of their nearest rivals, the Halco Warriors, who took out Champion Team, Mixed (local and interstate anglers on the team).
The Champion Local Team was Science Fiction, captained by John Roberts, with 2525 points. The ever-competitive Pilbarians crept over the line to defeat the Port Hedland team Pflueger for the Champion Visiting Team honours.
The Champion Angler of the tournament was Justin Jones from Arnhemland Nitro Boys, with 1785 points. Among other prizes, Justin wins an invitation to the Rolex/IGFA Invitational Inshore Tournament in Florida next year.

Tom also took out the Champion Angler for the day with 655 points. Tom made it a clean sweep by taking out the 3rd prize in the daily raffle. Ian Noble took out wood duck of the day by falling backwards and landing in the esky. Team members found it hard to pull him out as he had jammed himself in a beauty!
