30TH BARRAMUNDI CLASSIC – FINAL

The 2011 Barra Classic finished today with the Classic Warlocks, comprising John Millyard, Trevor Robb and Justin Jones overtaking yesterday’s leaders, with a great day’s fishing on the final day. They accumulated 4355 points, 405 points ahead of second place, local team Reel Easy (Skevos Politis, Neil Mellon and Eddie Carroll).

Third place went to visting team, Fire Fin from Western Australia (Jay Wheelock, Damien Bode and Rob Skwirowski)  on 3740 points.

The Champion Angler for the tournament was local angler, Trevor Robb on 1730 points. Wade Rogers from Darwin was the Runner-up Local Angler on 1675 points, with Mark Cottrell taking out the award for the Runner-up Visiting Angler.

Kord Luckus from Team Live Fibre took out honours for the Most Meritorious Capture award for the biggest fish, which he caught on the last day of the tournament, at a massive 117cm.

The Champion lady angler was Roxsean Edwards from Team Intuition.

A very credible 1558 fish were tagged and released during the five day tournament, making it one of the best in recent times.

BARRAMUNDI CLASSIC – TOURNAMENT DAY 4

Another great day’s fishing on Day 4 of the Barra Classic, with 308 fish tagged and released, making a total of 1256 fish caught so far, with one day’s fishing left.

Champion angler for the day was John Roberts on 645 points, helped greatly by his 105cm fish.

Michael Stacey from Thunderstruck took biggest fish honours for the day, as well as the tournament to date with a 108 cm fish.  There were four other fish over a metre caught by Carl Fisher (104cm), Tony Hare (101cm), Matt West (100cm) and John Roberts (105cm).

There was yet another change to the leaderboard with visiting team Lucky Strike (Ross McCubbin, Ben and Brad Job) taking over the top spot on 3375 points, just 215 points ahead of second place team Classic Warlocks (John Millyard, Justin Jones and Trevor Robb.

Third place, just another 90 points back is first day leaders, Fire Fin (Jay Wheelock, Rob Skirowski and Damien Bode.

Champion lady angler was Marion Washington.

Barra Classic - Day 3

BARRAMUNDI CLASSIC – TOURNAMENT DAY 3

Another great day on the Daly River half-way through the 2011 Barra Classic, with 341 fish caught, including the biggest barra caught so far, at 107cm, by Rob Payne of Team Platypus. This brings the total fish caught so far to 948.

The Champion Angler award was won by Brad Job, from Lucky Strike with a total of 850 points.

Champion lady angler for the second day running was Roxsean Edwards from Team Intuition.

And the tournament is really hotting up, with only 45 points separating the top three teams.

As a result of yesterday’s results, there has been some jockeying on the leaderboard, with Reel Easy (Skevos Politis, Neil Mellon and Eddie Carroll) taking over the lead with 2730, closely followed by Barely Legal (Mark Spain, Andrew Spain and Darren Struylaart) on 2690 poiints.

After a great day’s fishing, visiting team Lucky Strike (Ross McCubbin and Brad and Ben Job) have jumped into third place on 2685.

Barra Classic - Day 2

30TH BARRAMUNDI CLASSIC – TOURNAMENT DAY 2

Day two was another great day on the Daly River, with 330 fish caught, bringing the catch of the day was a 98cm barra, caught by Heath Grills from team Wrecktem.  The Champion Angler for the day was old man Daly, Col Cordingley from Scorpion Stingers, with a massive score of 1055 points.

Retaining the lead today is visiting team, Fire Fin  (Jay Wheelock, Damien Bode and Rob Skirowski) who have a small lead of less than 100 points from second place team, Barely Legal, skippered by local Mark Spain, with interstate team mates, Andrew Spain and Darren Struylaart.

In third place is local team Reel Easy, comprising Skevos Politis, Neil Mellon and Eddie Carrol.

Champion lady angler for the day was local angler, Roxsean Edwards from Team Intuition.

30TH BARRAMUNDI CLASSIC – TOURNAMENT DAY 1

Today saw a great start to the 30th
Anniversary of the Darwin Game Fishing Club’s XXXX Gold NT Barra Classic. Darwin Game Fishing Club life member, Col Cordingley fired the cannon and the sailpast commenced at 7.00am.

277 fish were caught with Damien Bode from visiting team Fire Fin tagging the biggest barra of 98cm. Damien was also the Champion Angler with 595  points. Lady Champion Angler of the Day, was TJulie Fisher from Femme Fishing.

Fire Fin, skippered by WA’s Jay Wheelock is at the top of the leader board with local team Reel Easy, led by skipper Skevos Politis in second place, just one big fish behind.  In third place is Team Lowrance, skippered by Dave Silva.

2011 NT XXXX GOLD BILLFISH CLASSIC - RESULTS

The 2011 NT XXXX Gold Billfish Classic held from 28 – 30 May and based at Dundee Beach, saw 20 teams pit themselves against the elements in an attempt to tag the elusive billfish. The boats competed in three categories over the tournament, Billfish, Mackeral and Other Species.

The weather conditions were very trying for all teams, with strong winds each morning.

The first day saw two sailfish tagged, one by Wayne Baldwin from Fin Heads and the other by Kenny Roderick from MegII. Shoal Bay Sport Fishing combined to tag fourteen macks to lead that category. The Good, the Bad and the Ugly and Adrenalin shared the lead in the Other Species categories with four each. During the day there were 22 billfish raised, 7 hooked and 2 tagged.

Day two saw another two tagged, including the eventual winning catch of a huge black marlin by Trevor Robb from All Hooked Up. Phil Bubner from Hunter tagged the other billfish for the day, a nice sailfish. There were also a number of macks and other species tagged during the day. Shoal Bay Sport Fishing continued to lead the way in the Mack category with a further five tagged, while The Good, the Bag and the Ugly tagging ten other species. During the day there were 11 billfish raised, three hooked and two tagged.

Day three saw a promising start with two sailfish tagged by 9.00am, but unfortunately one more more sailfish was tagged for the rest of the day. Sailfish were tagged by Mark Taylor from On Strike, junior Jayden Robb from All Hooked Up and Ben Kilgour from Power Bills.

During the tournament a total of 47 billfish were raised, 16 were hooked and 7 were tagged.

The 2010 NT XXXX Gold Billfish Classic held from 1-3 October, saw teams pit themselves against the elements in an attempt to tag the elusive billfish. The boats competed in three categories over the tournament, Billfish, Mackeral and Other Species.

The first day saw two sailfish tagged, one by Garry Simpson from Bill Collectors and the other by Russell Fry from Hunter. Shoal Bay Sport Fishing combined to tag two macks and three fish of other species. During the day there were 21 billfish raised, 9 hooked and 2 tagged.

Day two saw more billfish tagged, including the eventual winning catch of a black marlin by Clint Skehan from Team WFO. Geoff Browne from Gold Cat also tagged an elusive black marlin during the day that also saw sailfish tagged by Justin Jones, Rob Robinson, Mike Jones and Chris Gatt. There were also a number of macks and other species tagged during the day.

Day three was very tough with the weather turning during the afternoon and cutting the fishing time short. Two sailfish were tagged during the day, one by Esme Rolleston from NT Powercom and the other by Josh Ker.
